Does Credit Repair Work?
Compliance-based credit repair for inaccurate and unverifiable reporting.

What the Research and Regulators Say
Yes, with a caveat that matters more than the yes. Credit repair works when what is hurting your score is inaccurate, outdated, incomplete or unverifiable information, because the law requires bureaus to correct or delete that. It does not work as a way to erase history that really happened. The clearest sign of a company you should not hire is one that promises it can.
What Credit Repair Can Actually Fix
- Accounts that are not yours, including accounts opened by someone else and mixed files from a similar name.
- Balances and payment histories reported wrongly.
- Debts reported twice, once by the collector and once by the original creditor.
- Collections already paid or settled that still show a balance.
- Items reported past their legal reporting window.
- Inquiries you never authorised.
What Credit Repair Cannot Do
It cannot delete accurate late payments, charge-offs or a bankruptcy before their reporting periods end — seven years for most negative items and ten years for a Chapter 7. It cannot create a score, guarantee an approval, or make a lender ignore a recent delinquency. Companies that advertise "wiping" accurate items, or promise a specific score increase, are either misrepresenting the law or planning to make untrue statements on your behalf, which is illegal under the Credit Repair Organizations Act.
Does Disputing Actually Change Scores?
Deleting an inaccurate collection, a duplicate account or a wrongly reported late payment usually moves a score, because those items carry real weight — payment history and collections are the two heaviest factors in most models. Removing a single old, small item sometimes changes nothing. That is why the analysis comes before the letters: it is worth knowing which items on your file are doing the damage.
The 5 Points of Compliance Difference
Our approach goes beyond basic disputes. We examine how negative items are reported, documented, and maintained — then challenge them based on compliance issues, not just accuracy.
What the Research and Regulators Say
The case for credit repair is built on a documented problem: federal studies have repeatedly found that a substantial share of consumer credit reports contain errors, and some of those errors are serious enough to affect the terms a consumer is offered. The FCRA exists for that reason, and the dispute right it creates is real. Regulators such as the CFPB require credit repair companies to be truthful, to have written contracts, and to not collect fees before services are performed.
What Real Results Look Like
A realistic engagement looks like a three-bureau review, a documented dispute plan, results tracked round by round, and an honest report of what changed. Typical programs run several months because each dispute round is a 30-day investigation. What you should never get is a promise of a specific score by a specific date.
Is Doing It Yourself Better?
It is entirely legitimate, and it costs nothing to file a dispute. People hire help when the file is complicated — several collections, a mixed file, a deadline like a mortgage — or when the same items keep coming back verified. Anyone with a simple wrong balance on one report can fix that alone in an afternoon.
